Hailing from the land where everyone seems to be born with music juice in their veins, Dutch rising star Dannic has shown why he’s been in the spotlight for the entire year. Gaining early notoriety with debut Revealed Recordings release ‘Doster,’ which dropped at the start of 2012, the producer has only been collecting accolades ever since. Having releases on several big labels such as Toolroom and Cr2, and a massive collaboration with Hardwell entitled ‘Kontiki’, Dannic has seen his tracks been supported by Tiesto, Laidback Luke, Fedde Le Grand and David Guetta. After co-headlining Revealed Recordings North American Tour alongside Dyro in the summer of 2013, the Dutchman talks to us about his accomplishments, on the verge of a massive NYE gig in Vancouver beside Hardwell.
Daan, it’s great to catch up with you! Where in the world are you at the moment?
Hi. I am just finishing a run of shows in Mexico where I have been playing alongside Hardwell for the I Am Hardwell tour. Before that I was playing a run of club dates in the US. It’s been a lot of fun.
How would you describe what you do to somebody you’ve just met?
I am lucky enough to travel the world, make music and DJ at the best clubs and festivals around the world. As a DJ I select music that I feel is appropriate for the environment and mix these together to create a continuous beat for people to dance to.
How has your US Tour been so far? Any funny stories?
There have been a lot of funny moments that’s for sure, but I am not sure if these can be shared. There have also been a few close calls with missing flights and connections, so you might have seen me running around airports recently looking disheveled and confused.
You’ve got your first Beatport #1 with ‘Blueprint’, the massive collab you did with Sick Individuals, congrats! What’s the story behind this track?
Thank you. I am really pleased with how it has come out and couldn’t be happier about the #1 position. Sick Individuals are Dutch producers who have been making some really cool music of late and building a big following. We went into the studio together over a couple of days and it came together. The response has been amazing so far.
Your remix for Armin van Buuren’s Intense has been getting some great response. How did you approach the track to give it your signature trademark sound yet keeping the original feel?
It came out exactly how I wanted it too. I kept a lot of elements from the original but then added driving percussion and reworked the arrangement to give it the feel of one of my original productions. It seems to be getting some really good feedback everywhere I play it which is cool.
You’re playing at Pacific Coliseum, in Vancouver, with Hardwell this NYE. What can we expect from you on this special night?
I am really looking forward to it. I toured Canada at the beginning of this year alongside Dyro and Hardwell for the Revealed Recordings Canadian Bus tour, we played some amazing shows and the Canadian crowds are so up for it and ready to party hard, the atmosphere at some of the shows was at a different level.
You’ve spilled on Facebook that you’re working on some new stuff. Tell us the juice!
I have a few really exciting projects lined up for the start of 2014 which I cant wait to reveal more information about, but we are still confirming the details so I don’t want to let slip too much too soon. What I can say is that there are some really interesting and eagerly anticipated collaboration planned as well as some really big shows lined up.
What was the highlight of 2013 for you?
That’s a really difficult one for me. It has been such a big year for me, the most successful of my career so far that’s for sure. If I had to pick one moment it would be playing the mainstage of EDC Las Vegas, it was one of the stops on the Revealed Recordings North American tour. I can remember looking out of the DJ booth, so many people were dancing to one of my tunes, it was a very special moment!
Tell one thing you’re putting on your New Year’s Resolutions list.
Probably going to the gym a little more frequently
Thanks for your time, Daan! We can’t wait to see you in Vancouver!
